Spencer Stuart: Results of Annual Fortune 500 CFO Index

Spencer Stuart presents the results of their annual CFO Index, which looks at the Chief Financial Officers of Fortune 500 companies from 2006 to 2016. The CFO role and its responsibilities are continually expanding, creating a need for financial officers with a wide range of leadership skills.

Notable findings include:

• 69% of Fortune 500 CFOs in 2016 were hired internally.
• The amount of women CFOs of Fortune 500 companies is just under 13%, up from 6.8% in 2006.
• 50% of CFOs analyzed have been in the role between 2 to 5 years.
