WittKieffer: Expand Your Board’s Borders
The American Hospital Association's 2019 National Health Care Governance Survey Report found that while board diversity is increasing in the industry, progress is extremely slow.
More notably for subsidiary and freestanding boards, only 26% of boards that AHA surveyed had members outside of their organization’s service area. Searching for members outside of the local region can help the board have more experience away from their comfort zones.
WittKieffer's recent article gives five suggestions that boards should consider as they look farther and wider for new members, including:
- Rethink your expectations.
- Consider more candidates.
- Enlist a search firm.
