Odgers Berndtson’s UK Technology & IT Services Practice Appoints Katie Sharpe As A Principal

Odgers Berndtson appointed Katie Sharpe as a Principal in their Global Technology Practice, following increasing demand for c-suite positions among our consumer tech clients.

Katie will work with B2C digital platform and PE-backed consumer tech businesses, placing roles across the c-suite with a particular focus on commercial marketing positions.

The appointment comes amid growth in business to consumer platforms and investment in the digital customer experience. Prior to COVID-19 online was often viewed as a convenience, but the pandemic has accelerated digital adoption among consumers. digital has become a necessity for consumers during lockdowns, with brands reacting and creating new online platforms or investing in existing ones.

“The pandemic has shone a spotlight on the disconnect that often still exists between what a customer wants from the online experience and what companies can offer,” said Katie. “As a result, brands are increasingly looking for adaptable, digital-savvy and commercially minded leaders who can enhance the entire online customer journey”.

The responsibility of the online offering, particularly among B2C brands, has fallen at the feet of chief marketing officers, with an increasing number of opportunities in this area.

“The chief marketing officer was historically considered a backend luxury but is now viewed as a front-end revenue generating position,” said Katie. “Those marketing leaders, who combine commercial acumen with an in-depth understanding of the online arena, are now in pole position for the growing number of companies that need to develop market leading online platforms for their customers.”

Katie will report into Mike Drew, a partner and global head of the technology practice. Commenting on the appointment, Mike said, “With ten years’ experience in recruiting across the UK technology industry, Katie is an outstanding addition to the practice. Her extensive knowledge and network in digital leadership will help our B2C platform and PE-backed tech clients come out of the pandemic that much stronger”.
